The utilities for our unit are inside the basement unit so if anything went wrong, we had to coordinate with the other tenants to get things repaired. We did not have access to the electrical panel, HVAC system or hot water heater. Our unit has the thermostat that controls the heating and cooling for both units so the basement unit has no control over their heating. Our rent was raised $400 in one lease cycle and the landlord pressured us intensely to resign and threatened to show the apartment if we didn’t sign ASAP (this was in December of a Sept 1 lease). It’s a good location, a nice spacious unit and he does respond to issues promptly, but he can be difficult to deal with and is not willing to negotiate rent. If these things are okay with you, it’s a nice apartment besides some occasional heating and plumbing issues as it’s an old building.
