I chose this apartment for the cheap rent, not realizing it would cost my health. Before summer, management offered window AC units for $150–$200, explicitly recommending them due to extreme heat. This was a clear liability shield-the units were functionally inadequate. Maintenance even admitted the AC couldn't cool more than ~10 feet in front of it and told me to pay for more units if I wanted the whole place cooled. I foolishly set concerns aside. Soon, indoor temperatures hit 87–88°F, spiking higher during heat advisories. The oppressive heat made me feel like I was burning, causing me to develop skin fungal infections from constant sweat. The unit trapped massive dust and mold spores; food, fruit, and even my Brita filter grew mold within half a day. This exposure ruined my respiratory health and immune system, and I am still recovering. We found mice droppings and large bugs despite the apartment regularly being cleaned. Laundry is in an underground shed, and doesn’t really work
